As we all get back to the “new” normal of traveling and going about our everyday lives, there are still some challenges for traveling in a Post Covid environment. I use that term loosely as we are still not rid of Covid and it does still wreak havoc on traveling. Throughout the pandemic some positive things did happen. Theater productions that were cancelled mostly came back and in Boston and Twas the Night Before by Cirque du Soleil makes it’s New England premiere in 2022. You will find more and more outdoor activities like Beer Gardens and open air restaurant designs. Another new activity to pop up are European style Christmas markets.
New York City has seen multiple outdoor markets and even the streets around Rockafeller Center are now shut down to traffic during the holiday season. In Boston, there are two wonderful Christmas Markets to choose from. Snoport in Boston’s Seaport and the SoWa Winter Festival at the Power Station. One indoors and one outdoors, they both offer craft goods, fine foods, music and everything you would expect from a festive holiday marketplace.
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE by Cirque du Soleil
‘Twas the Night Before…is an exhilarating spin on the beloved Christmas tale, and marks Cirque du Soleil’s first-ever Christmas production in New England. This festive show brings a flurry of love, Christmas cheer, thrilling acrobatics and hugely lovable characters that will create a new holiday tradition for families to cherish. Our travel program is absolutely fantastic for ALL ages, even younger children because the show time is 90 minutes with NO intermission. We have daytrip packages for the weekend matinees. You can do a daytrip for weekday shows but you must take the later train home at 10:30.
Make a night of it! Our overnight packages are an amazing value. We can also make things more special by providing private transfers to arrive in style or ask about some restaurant options. We can make reservations for you at great restaurants close to the theater. Downeaster travel packages has daytrips available from $159 and overnights from $239
SoWa Winter Festival at the Power Station
For your holiday shopping pleasure, we’ve assembled 100+ of the region’s best makers, artists, designers, and specialty vendors together under one festive roof for our 7th annual Winter Festival. Browse the main floor and enjoy delicious food and drinks, and be sure to venture to the 2nd floor for live music and specialty cocktails designed by some of Boston’s top bartenders!
The fun continues just a 3 minute walk away! Fridays through Sundays, exit the Power Station and head to Harrison Avenue. Take a right, pass Randolph Street, and enjoy a variety of food and beverage trucks, cozy up to a firepit, and explore the open artist studios in the Art + Design District on Thayer Street.
SnoPort in Boston’s Seaport
The hottest area in Boston has got to be the ever growing Seaport Area. Once an area you would never find tourists, it was the top spot Red Sox and New England Patriots owners wanted to build new stadiums. Now it has been an area of upscale dining, living and multi-use facilities. Ten or more hotels now call the Seaport home and the Seaport Area marketing arm has developed SnoPort to bring visitors into this newly developed area of Boston. They may be small, but local businesses bring our community to life in a big way. This season Boston Seaport by WS Development teamed up with The Makers Show to create a holiday market unlike anything in New England. The Holiday Market at Snowport features more than 60+ small businesses, a tree market for all of your evergreen needs, and a festive menu from Tuscan Kitchen.
