BOOKING AND TRAVEL PACKAGE QUESTIONS
> When can I travel on your packages? What are the dates of departure?
This is the most common question we get and what makes our travel program so unique. Our travel program is designed to be car-free and an independent travel program. You are traveling with just your travel party and you can depart whenever you wish. As an example: When you arrive in Brunswick and transfer all the way up to Bar Harbor, a local driver is waiting for you at the Brunswick Station and take you up to Bar Harbor. Just you and your travel mates. You are not traveling on a large escorted bus departure. You are traveling independently at your pace, doing the things that you like to do! No set dates. We will work with you on dates to get the most out of your travels.
> Where can I start my travel package?
The Amtrak Downeaster has 12 stations total in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. The start and end points of the Downeaster are Boston, MA (North Station) and Brunswick, ME. You can start your travel package at any station along the way – and we can also book people into Boston from all points West and South. Ex. If you are from Philadelphia, we can book train from Philly to Boston and then take you up into Maine. For our Canadian friends in Nova Scotia, you can take the CAT Ferry to Portland and easily enter the Downeaster route.
> How do we get from the train station to our hotel/theatre in Boston?
There is no transportation included/provided with your package. We do offer “semi-private” and “private” transfers from North Station and from most Boston hotels that can be added for an additional cost. We also have arrangements with ride share services where you do not need to have an account directly with a ride share. Please inquire when booking.
> How do we get from the train station to our hotels in Maine?
Unlike Boston, once you are up in Maine or Southern New Hampshire, we include ALL transportation to hotels, inns or included activities that are too far to walk to. Seriously….you don’t have to think……just follow our instructions that come with your travel documents and we get you everywhere you need to go.
> Where are the hotels and inns that you offer in the travel packages?
Our travel program is designed to be car-free, therefore all of our hotels are centrally located within each destination. We do not put you out at highway hotels because we offer the most convenient travel program to Boston, Maine, Nova Scotia and beyond. These hotels tend to cost a little more, but you save time and money commuting from hotel properties outside the main area. If a hotel is located outside of the most popular area, the property will offer a complimentary shuttle to get you there.
> Do you offer these packages to groups?
Not only is that answer a big YES. We will customize any group request to your requirements. Group leaders may travel free with a group of 20! Please call us for details or find more information on our GROUPS page
> Where are the theatre tickets you provide in your packages?
We take great pride in our Boston Theatre Travel Program. We can provide tickets in just about any section but we base our prices on front mezzanine or mid-orchestra sections. We find these to be the best value for the money. What makes our program even more valuable is the fact that we can offer tickets to you before they go on sale to the general public, therefore receiving the best selection of available seating. The prices in our packages are typically the same or quite a bit less than what one would get booking them directly on Ticketmaster. So one call and we take care of every arrangement for your theatre package to Boston or even the Maine State Music Theatre in Brunswick, Maine.
> What are your deposit/final payment requirements?
A $100 non-refundable Deposit per person is due within 3 days of making a reservation. Final payment is due 60 days prior to departure. If your package price is less than $100, we require full payment within 3 days of making the reservation.
> Will there be a fee to change and or cancel my reservation?
One change is allowed complimentary if the change does not require the re-issue of documents. All additional changes within 45 days of departure will incur a $20 fee. Some package items may not be changed. All sporting events and some theatre event tickets may not be changed once booked. Customer is responsible for any price difference due to the change in travel plans.
> If I cancel my trip, how will I be refunded?
Refunds are posted back to the original type of payment used for deposit unless the refund happens more than 30 days after payment was recieved. In this case, a check will be issued for the refund amount.
> Do you offer travel protection insurance? If so, what does it cover?
Currently we offer travel protection through Squaremouth.com that allows you to choose from different insurance providers that fit your needs. You pay the insurance provider directly for the coverage. We are in the process of providing our own coverage.
> When will I receive my travel documents?
Travel documents are mailed or e-mailed 30-14 days prior to departure. Method for delivery varies by package. Many times, your travel documents are sent even further in advance when time warrants. If you have not recieved your documents at 14 days prior, please contact our office.
ONBOARD THE AMTRAK DOWNEASTER QUESTIONS
> How many pieces of luggage can I bring on the train?
Each passenger can have a total of 2 carry-on bags, each not to exceed 50 lbs, 28 x 22 x 14 inches
> Does the Amtrak Downeaster accommodate passengers with disabilities?
All Amtrak Downeaster trains welcome passengers with disabilities. Our trains and stations are wheelchair-accessible and service animals are allowed.
>How early do I have to arrive at the Amtrak station prior to my departure?
Arrive at the station at least 15 minutes prior to your departure. Please allow extra time if you’re parking a car, travelling with a bike or pet, or need special assistance.
> Are meals and/or drinks included aboard the Downeaster?
The Downeaster Café is located on every train and has snacks, light meals, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages available for purchase. Major credit cards are accepted. Passengers can dine at one of the Café tables or take food back to their seat.
> Are pets allowed aboard the Amtrak Downeaster?
Pets are allowed on the train but there are restrictions. Please find Amtrak’s pet policy HERE
