Holidays Faneuil Hall

Boston at Christmastime…the merry traditions, twinkling lights, colorful markets, and festive performances. The holiday season is a glimpse into this historic city at its most traditional – and most breathtaking. Planning a yuletide getaway to Boston this year? Make sure you center your visit around one of these five cant-miss Holiday theater events…

1. Holiday Boston Pops, 12/6-12/31 at Symphony Hall

Join the Boston Pops and conductor Keith Lockhart, in a performance filled with holiday music favorites, the traditional Pops sing-a-long, and even a visit from Santa Claus himself! Started in 1973 by Boston Pops Conductor Arthur Fiedler, these concerts take place in the magical atmosphere of world-famous Symphony Hall – decorated to evoke all the magic of the season. Special kids matinee performances are available at 11:00 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. Don’t miss the most popular seasonal tradition around!

2. How The Grinch Stole Christmas, 11/28-12/9 at Boch Center-Wang Theater

A holiday mash-up for the entire family! A contemporary re-imagination of Tchaikovsky’s timeless music. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is “two sizes too small,” decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday-loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, breathing new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas!

3. Cirque Dreams Holidaze, 12/4-12/9 at Boch Center-Shubert Theater

Cirque Dreams Holidaze is a new Cirque adventure, Broadway musical and family holiday spectacular wrapped in one! This incomparable phenomenon features over 300 imaginative costumes, 20 world-class astonishing acts, the finest singers, original music and seasonal favorites celebrating the most wonderful time of the year from Thanksgiving to Chanukah, Christmas and New Year’s.

4. A Charlie Brown Christmas, 11/29-12/2 at Boch Center-Shubert Theater

A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage features the Peanuts gang – Linus, Lucy, Snoopy, Sally, and the lovable Charlie Brown – as they discover the true meaning of Christmas. When Charlie Brown becomes discouraged by the materialism of the season, Lucy convinces him to direct the neighborhood Christmas play. In typical Charlie Brown fashion, things go awry – and it’s up to Linus to save the day and remind one and all of the real message of the holiday!

5. Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, 12/14-12/17 at Boch Center-Shubert Theater

The beloved TV classic soars off the screen and onto the stage this holiday season. Come see all of your favorite characters from the special including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius and, of course, Rudolph! It’s an adventure that teaches us that what makes you different can be what makes you special. Don’t miss this wonderful holiday tradition that speaks to the misfit in all of us!
